This book is Justin Castaneda's attempt at creating a slasher movie in picture book form. The Murder Balloon is a love letter to horror. It has tension and suspense, like some of the best slasher movies, combined with absurd and ridiculous characters like some of the horror genre's campiest films.

The Murder Balloon has the look of a picture book with full page illustrations and vibrant colors. As we progress through the story, the look changes to that of a black and white horror movie with red being the only vibrant color.
